Diego Zangirolami, the artist: With the series “Stanze” I am looking for the symbolism, by going through other ways, or rather by entering into other rooms. I imagined architectural and not architectural environments as if they were in a collective mind: that of the human race. It is an architectural mind, made of precise places: the votive chapel, the cave, the railway junction, the bridal chamber, the temple, the baths, the hidden Garden of Eden. I chose to tell, or rather, to let the images tell some topoi that philosophically and culturally characterise our genre. The word Genre should be understood not only with the meaning of Human. Each topos, from beauty, power, supernatural, divine, strength, violence, sanctity, mysticism, sensibility, eros, friendship, brotherhood, peace and activity, has been entrusted, on a representative level, to female figures from other paintings and works of art history. In my paintings, these characters stop wearing their clothes and start dressing with new ones. Some of them are masked, since what is precious and sacred to us has always been narrated through complex rituals. Therefore, the different manifestations of the feminine, of the universal mother, wear helmets, hats, faces made of bronze, crystal, silver and ivory. I chose to place a sort of encyclopaedic library made of essential symbols, which are those to which almost all of us have referred to, in the most remote rooms of our human memory. Through the images of the feminine where we are from, the Mother, I wanted to explore some basic elements of the system of thought and perception through which Humans see and understand the world around them. As well as the Fates and the Oracles in Greek Mythology, the women in each Room weave and sometimes dismantle the intrigues of our worldly experiences.
